I saw the drama unfold about a half second before it happened.

And it was all my fault.

I had made my way to Connor's lab to tell him about the last minute „invitation“ (order, more like) from the minister to some fancy schmoozing dinner that evening. I knew Connor would be stupidly excited about this while I had no interest in buttering up some Sirs and Dames of questionable merits.

The door to the lab swooshed open quietly and I spotted Connor with his back turned to me, precariously standing on his desk chair, one leg lifted into the air for balance and the opposite arm stretched out wide to reach for something on the chaotic mountain of metal and wires that was his equipment shelve.

„Connor! What on earth are you doing? You're going to break your neck!“
