This follows on from Unexpected Problems. However, the storyline started with Unexpected Circumstances.
Becker woke feeling somewhat disoriented. He opened one eye and saw that the grey of early dawn was just morphing into actual daylight and that his beloved alpha was sleeping beside him, Ryan's face slack and relaxed. Becker felt a slight twinge in his stomach and settled one hand on his pregnant belly that was probably expanding again by the feel of it.
It should have been peaceful but somehow Becker was restless.
He turned around on his other side and peered at the clock on the night stand. It was just after 5 a.m., too early for his usual morning routine but too late to go back to sleep. He decided to take a leak and have a slow start, maybe prepare a big healthy breakfast for the family as a surprise. He shuffled upright slowly and then had to sit still for a moment when a wave of dizziness washed over him. He squeezed his eyes closed and waited for it to pass.
After a moment, he felt more steady and reopened his eyes. The room stayed upright, so he grabbed the glass of water Ryan dutifully placed on his bedside table every night in case he got thirsty. He gulped the liquid down in a few big mouthfuls. Becker remained seated for another minute and then decided that he'd probably just been dehydrated and now that he'd drunk something, the unexpected dizziness would stay away.
He stood and wormed his feet inside his slippers but the way his boxers clung to his body was weird. Not really thinking about it, he pulled at the fabric and felt that it connected stickily to his skin. He made a face. Ryan, the possessive bastard, must have pumped him full the night before. It wasn't the first time but Becker had never felt quite that sticky the next day. However, Ryan had been exceptionally turned on by the changes in Becker's body lately.
He tugged at the damp fabric again and wrinkled his nose. When he turned around to make sure he hadn't disturbed Ryan his gaze was immediately drawn to the spot on the bed he had just vacated. On the white sheet, there was a brownish stain. It almost looked like...
Blood.
It looked like blood.
Hot and cold washed over Becker and he looked down on himself and pulled the boxer shorts away from his body so that he could peer inside.
There was blood.
He was bleeding.
He rushed to the bathroom, silently praying that it had already stopped again while he was sleeping. But no, the toilet paper came back wet and reddish from his omega opening.
He was bleeding.
For a moment he just stared at the bloody tissue and felt the panic rise in him.
Was he losing his babies?
His heart was hammering and his breath was stuck in his throat, hardly any air reached his lungs.
Oh god, he was bleeding.
On autopilot, he flushed the toilet paper down and stumbled back to their bedroom. Ryan. Ryan would know what to do.
He needed Ryan now.
He steadied himself on the wall on the way and crashed down on his knees beside Ryan's sleeping form when he reached their room.
“Tom!” His voice was shaky and desperate, and as if he was having a sixth sense, Ryan tore his eyes open, wide awake.
“Becks?” The alpha sat up, alarmed, and grabbed Becker's hands. The omega was shaking. “Hils? What's going on?”
“I'm bleeding,” Becker whispered.
“You're... you're what?” Ryan looked at him with fearful eyes and his gaze travelled down Becker's front to where a brownish-red spot was clearly visible on his underpants.
Ryan jumped out of the bed and guided Becker to lie down.
“Okay,” He smoothed the hair out of Becker's forehead. “You lie here, and I'll call the ambulance. Don't move, okay?”
He kissed Becker's hair and the omega whined in distress when his alpha ran out of the room and thundered down the stairs. They hadn't even been on call for once, so they'd kept their phones out of reach. And now this innocent decision turned out a horrible mistake. What if this were the deciding moments for their pups?
Becker rolled onto his side and hugged his pregnant belly. Maybe if he held on tight enough, sent enough love through to his pups, they wouldn't leave him? He closed his eyes and imagined his babies inside his womb.
They couldn't lose them now. Not after all the ups and downs they'd gone through. Ryan and Becker loved them as much as their trio already, no matter that they hadn't even been born yet.
And now maybe they never would.
Becker let out a shuddering breath.
He heard Ryan rush up the stairs again, already speaking to an emergency dispatcher. Simultaneously, there was the sound of doors opening when the triplets came out of their rooms, still sleepy and confused.
“Yes, it's fresh blood. It's still red,” Ryan answered on the phone.
Silence as the dispatcher said something.
“He's five weeks along.”
Silence again.
“Dad?” The kids anxiously peered inside their bedroom. Ryan signalled them to wait.
“No, but he had a lot of cramps, morning sickness and stuff in the beginning. With our first children, there were complications during the birth with unusual bleedings and at the omega clinic they said there's scarring. He had weekly check-ups but everything was alright.”
Silence.
“Okay. How long? - Yes, I'll hand you over to my son.”
Ryan took the phone away from his ear and saw the scared looks on their children's faces. Automatically, he slipped into his CO persona. Kay looked like she was going to faint any moment at the sight of her father's bloody underwear. He needed her out of the room now.
“Kay, go downstairs and leave the doors open. Watch the street and bring the paramedics right here when they arrive.
“Marcus, pack a duffle bag of clothes for your dad and me. Don't forget toiletries.
“Alex, you take the phone and listen to the instructions of the dispatcher. Tell us if we need to do anything besides make sure your father lays down.”
The kids sprung into action, and Becker felt the bed dip when Ryan lay down next to him. The alpha curled up behind him and his big warm hands covered Becker's own over his belly. Ryan pressed a kiss to Becker's shoulder and murmured, “It's going to be okay. The ambulance will be here in no time, and it's going to be okay.” His hold of Becker tightened.
It reminded Becker of how Ryan had held on to him during the ambulance ride with their trio.
His shivers came back as he remembered that day and the scary time that had followed.
He'd bled then, too.
They'd been so scared that they'd lose Kay. That Becker himself might not make it.
Now they were right there again.
Ryan said they would be okay, but would they really?
From afar, Becker heard the sirens of an ambulance.

The liquid in the IV dripped slowly, the blood pressure monitor on his arm inflated again and Ryan's and his hand were clasped together tightly. The kids were scattered around the room. Marcus was sitting beside Ryan, keeping vigilance and watching out for his father and unborn siblings. Alex stood at the wall, silently monitoring the door and the readings on the screen that relayed information about Becker's vitals. Kay stood by the window and fidgeted. She had hardly been able to really look at Becker since they'd been allowed into the room.
Becker was surprised that his tough, fierce daughter seemed shaken the most. Alex was his usual protective but gently caring self and Marcus, often unsure about himself and quiet, had proven calm, collected and hands-on in times of chaos, every bit showing how presumably meek and weak omegas would become fighters and nurturers for their family in need.
“How are you feeling, dad? Do you want me to get you another glass of water?” His sweet son asked.
Becker was just opening his mouth to reply when the doctor stepped into the room. He held a tablet in his hands and had a small, tight smile on his lips. He raised his eyebrows in silent question.
“Children, why don't you go get yourself something from the cafeteria?” Ryan said, and the kids obediently shuffled out of the room. They'd likely just sit in the hallway and wait.
“Okay then, Captain Becker, Captain Ryan, let's see what we have here.”
He checked the monitor next to Becker's bed and then tapped along on his tablet for a few moments.
“You said you didn't feel any cramping lately, captain?”
Becker shook his head. “No, everything was alright. Nothing felt off the last few days. I just woke up bleeding and dizzy.”
“Hmm,” The doctor tapped on the tablet again, then he looked up again. “Your vitals are alright, your hormonal balance is okay – not perfect, but certainly nowhere near bad enough to cause bleeding at this stage of your pregnancy. However, your placenta is unusually close to the cervix. Sometimes, after exertion or vigorous intercourse, this can cause bleeding, especially with mature omegas. Could that apply to the situation at hand?”
Becker's and Ryan's eyes met and their faces heated. Becker hadn't exercised or done anything strenuous but their love life was very... active. Becker had been constantly horny the last few days and Ryan couldn't get enough of his beautiful pregnant bitch.
The doctor watched them and chuckled. “I see. Well, the bleeding has stopped now and we'll keep you overnight to make sure it stays that way. We don't think there was a big risk of miscarriage, more like a sign of... let's say overexertion. We don't want to risk anything though, right?
“That said, we want you on bed rest for at least one week and then check with your OB/GYN, captain. We recommend a weekly check of your hormonal status.
“No exercising or physical activity, no stress, and no sex until the end of your pregnancy. And especially, absolutely no knotting.”
Ryan and Becker nodded obediently. It was just for a few weeks. Surely they could restrain themselves for the good of their pups. Right?
“Perfect. I'll see you in the morning before you leave. Good day, captains.”
The doctor took his leave and Ryan and Becker shared a sheepish look.

The next day, Kay helped Becker settle on the sofa when they returned home. Ryan was already flitting around the house, doing laundry and whatever. Marcus was busying himself in the kitchen preparing lunch and had roped Alex into helping him.
But Kay clung to Becker's side as if she was afraid he would just up and vanish.
“Can I get you anything, daddy?” she asked.
“No, thank you. Why don't you sit down with me for a minute?”
Becker grabbed her hand as she perched down next to him. She seemed stressed and tense.
“What's up, sweetheart? You heard the doc. Your siblings and I are fine, we just need a bit of rest.” Becker patted his protruding belly.
“Nothing, it's all right,” Kay hurried to say.
Becker just lifted his infamous brow. And luckily, even after life long exposure, it still worked on his kids.
“I was so scared, dad. You almost died when you had me. I thought, what if I killed you now after all this time? What if you and the pups died because of me?” Her eyes watered and her lip quivered.
“Oh baby,” Becker gathered her up in a bear hug and stroked her back. After a moment, he released his hold on her and leaned back, holding her gaze steadily. “Never ever think any of this is, or was, your fault. Not now, and not back when you and your brothers were born. It's no one's fault, things like that just happen. And look, I am already back home after barely 24 hours. I'll get to be lazy and let you kids and your father wait on me hand and foot. Which omega can say they get treated like that, eh?”
He smiled at her and wiped a tear from her cheek with his thumb. Kay chuckled quietly.
“Okay, dad. I love you.”
“I love you, too, baby.”
